Accessibility
Access OT works with people whose needs are often poorly served by inaccessible design. It would be strange for our own website to be part of that problem, so here is an honest account of where it stands.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We believe this website currently meets that standard for its main content, with the exceptions listed further down.
What we have done
- Every part of the site can be used with a keyboard alone, including the menu, the frequently asked questions, the “more about Aisling” panel, and the enquiry form.
- A clearly visible outline shows which element the keyboard is on, and a “skip to content” link is the first thing you reach.
- Body text is checked to meet or exceed the required contrast against its background, in every section.
- Headings follow a proper order, so screen reader users can move through the page by structure.
- Form fields have permanent labels, errors are described in text rather than by colour alone, and each error is tied to its field.
- Text can be enlarged and the layout reflows down to narrow phone screens without content being cut off or requiring sideways scrolling.
- Decorative illustrations are hidden from screen readers, and meaningful images have text alternatives.
- There is nothing that flashes, moves on its own, or plays automatically.
Known limitations
We know about the following, and would rather say so:
- The AOTI and CORU logos in the footer are shown small, and the fine print inside them is not readable at that size. Each logo has a text alternative that states what it means.
- Automated checks cover the text styles actually used on each page. They cannot catch everything a person would notice, so this list is unlikely to be complete.
- The site has not yet been tested with a screen reader by somebody who relies on one day to day. That test is planned, and we expect it to find things this list does not.
Telling us about a problem
If something on this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us at accessot123@gmail.com. Describing what happened and what you were using is helpful, but do not worry about getting the details right — a sentence is plenty.
We will reply within five working days. If a fix will take longer than that, we will tell you what we are doing and offer another way to get the same information or make an enquiry in the meantime.
Getting in touch another way
You never have to use the website form. If it does not work for you, email us at accessot123@gmail.com and we will arrange whatever suits you better, including a phone call.
